I need help with a mast. I’m on the east coast of the US so I’ll probably never race this boat in a class event. I do want to preserve the wood mast if i ever want to put it in a boat show. If anyone can send me the principal dimensions of the rig i could re purpose something local that would accept GP sails. If the current mast Manufacturer is shipping sticks to the US for other classes that may work too.
I’m also looking for a mast up over boom cover. Any recommendations for new covers?
Thanks!

ParticipantWork is progressing! ill try to post a few photos of the initial primer coat.
I want to circle back to the mast. We have the original wood mast from Bell. Since the goal is to teach the kids to sail I’m thinking i need to find an AL mast which would be stronger.
Any members in the states have an older mast you would like to get rid of?
Thanks!

ParticipantThis weekend is Thanksgiving here in the states. In between lots of turkey and some fishing i intend to get the remaining holes in the boat filled with ez fair. The sides of the hull will get a little more attention than the bottom for aesthetic reasons. Would you recommend removing the rub rail and reattaching after the finish coat?
Also i believe i used a single part interlux brightsides paint when i last refinished this boat 25 years ago. What are you all using to refinish the wood boats these days?

ParticipantGreat point about the keel band. I tried to remove a few screws and the heads just stripped off. There is a bunch of paint on them.
Should i remove the rubbing strips to repaint the hull or sand around them?
Thanks for the advice so far. I need to upload a few pics. Cant do it from my phone as the files are too big.

Participantthanks for the reply oliver
Ive reviewed the online albums and the photos of vintage boats are few and far between.
If you can point me in the direction of additional photos id be grateful. I did replace the original cleats in the early 90’s which was the last time the boat was in the water. I may still have them.
The hull is where the filler is failing and all will be covered with paint. The goal this year is to do the hull 100%. The decks will most likely get a maintenance coat of varnish in anticipation of being stripped and refinished next winter.
